Low level lasers approved for treating hair loss

FORT MYERS: Hair loss is a big issue for millions of men and women in this country and it's also a very personal one. But now, another treatment has been cleared by the FDA and NBC2’s Jessica Stilwell found out low level laser therapy is showing promising results.
Rose Furio never imagined she'd lose her hair. So when it started falling out, she became concerned.
"I was obsessive - always looking into the mirror and checking to see if more was falling out. When I looked in the drain, it would be plugged up. This never happened to me before," said Furio.
Just eight months ago, Furio’s hair was almost completely gone in the front. She says she was wearing headbands every day just to try and cover the growing bald spot.
"I was getting a little freaked. I was concerned. You expect men to go bald, not women," said Furio.
... She receives low-level laser therapy every week and she says the changes are very noticeable.
"I'm amazed; I'm amazed - especially lately. It's really growing in fast," said Furio.
Low level lasers have actually been around since the 1960s. But it was just last year that the Food and Drug Administration cleared the lasers for hair re-growth.
Each of these units the doctors use has 79 laser beams and they work to re-grow hair at the cellular level.
